What does peel-ed do?
peel-ed turns public YouTube videos into readable summaries. Use Express for one video or Feed to keep up with channels and playlists over time.
How do I sign in, and do I need a YouTube account?
Use Sign in with Apple. No YouTube sign-in is needed. peel-ed works with supported public YouTube links, so it never asks for your YouTube password.
Where are Express, Feed, Subs, and Settings?
Express, Feed, and Settings are the main tabs at the bottom.
- Express summarizes a single video that you paste.
- Feed shows summaries from the channels and playlists you follow.
- Subs is inside Feed and manages those channels and playlists.
- Settings contains language, voice, notifications, usage, plan, feedback, and account controls.
Should I use Express or Feed?
Use Express for one video; use Feed when you want future videos collected for you. If you only have a video link, start in Express. If you have a channel or playlist link, add it from Feed > Subs.
Express
How do I summarize one video?
Paste the video into Express and start it in four steps.
- Open Express.
- Tap the language control and choose Original or a summary language.
- Paste a supported YouTube video link or video ID.
- Tap the arrow to start Paste & Peel.
Keep the app online while the request starts. The result appears in Express when it is ready.
What can I paste into Express?
Paste a normal YouTube video URL, a youtu.be link, or an 11-character video ID.
Express is for individual videos. Add channel links, playlist links,
@handles, or channel IDs from Feed > Subs instead.
What does the usage number at the top mean?
It shows your current Express usage against your current plan limit. Limits can change by plan, so use the value shown in the app rather than an older screenshot or help article.
Why does my video still say Peeling?
Peeling means the summary is still being prepared. Long videos and busy periods can take longer. You can leave that screen and return later; refresh after a short wait if the status has not changed.
Why can’t peel-ed summarize this video?
The video may not have usable public spoken content.
Common reasons include:
- it is a Short or a live stream that is not ready;
- no transcript is available;
- the video is private, removed, age- or region-restricted, or otherwise unavailable;
- the link is a channel or playlist rather than one video; or
- YouTube or peel-ed is temporarily unavailable.
Check that the video opens publicly in YouTube, then try again later or use another video.
How do I favorite, delete, or select several Express summaries?
Swipe a summary right to Pin or Unpin it, and swipe left to Delete it. Pin adds it to Favorites.
Use Select, then Favorite, Unfavorite, or Delete when you want to change several items together. Express history and pinned Express items are stored on this device, so deleting them, resetting the cache, or signing out removes that local history.
Feed & Subs
What is the difference between Feed and Subs?
Feed contains summaries; Subs contains the channels and playlists that supply them. Use the Feed/Subs switch at the top of the Feed tab to move between them.
How do I add a channel or playlist?
Add it from Subs with the plus button.
- Open Feed, then Subs.
- Tap the plus button.
- Paste a channel link, playlist link,
@handle, or channel ID. - If needed, turn on Use original language.
- Choose Paste & Add to Feed or Add to Feed.
How do I refresh or filter Feed?
Pull down to refresh, and use Unread, All, or Favorites to filter what you see. Opening a Feed summary marks it as read. The check control can mark all currently visible items as read, and the app badge reflects unread Feed items.
How do I search Feed or Subs?
In iOS 1.0.3 or later, pull down to search. Start at the very top and pull until the search field appears.
- Feed searches titles, summary text, and channel names inside the selected Unread, All, or Favorites filter.
- Subs searches subscription names.
Clear the search field to show the complete selected view again.
What happens when I swipe?
The action depends on the screen and swipe direction. A full swipe performs the shown action.
| Screen | Swipe right | Swipe left |
|---|---|---|
| Express summary | Pin / Unpin | Delete |
| Feed summary | Favorite / Unfavorite | Read / Unread |
| Subs card | Read — marks all unread items in that Sub as read | Delete |
| Channel detail summary | Pin / Unpin | Read / Unread |
How do I use the original language for one Sub?
Touch and hold its card, then choose Use original language.
Choose Use app language the same way to return to your Summary language. This affects future summaries from that Sub only; existing summaries keep their language.
What does Paused mean, and how do I remove a Sub?
Paused means the Sub stays saved but is not currently monitored. This can happen when your plan changes and you have more Subs than the current allowance. peel-ed resumes paused Subs automatically when space becomes available, for example after you delete an active Sub or upgrade. To remove one instead, swipe its Subs card left and choose Delete.
Summary Reader
How is a summary organized, and can it be wrong?
Start with Core Message, then read the deeper sections when you want more detail. The AI-generated label is a reminder that summaries can miss context or contain errors. Check important medical, legal, financial, professional, or safety information against the original video.
How do I jump from the summary to the matching video moment?
Tap a marked summary block. Playback starts about five seconds before the matching point so you hear the context. If seeking inside peel-ed is unavailable, YouTube opens externally at the closest available point.
What do the star, center control, and PDF action do?
They save, read, or share the current summary.
- The star adds or removes the summary from Favorites.
- The center control starts or stops read aloud and resumes after a paragraph pause.
- The PDF action creates a shareable PDF of the summary.
How does read aloud work when I move around the app?
Read aloud can continue while you navigate inside peel-ed. Tap the paragraph currently being read to pause; tap another paragraph to continue from there. On other screens, use the visible Stop and Read controls to return or stop. Moving the app to the background can pause audio.
How can I improve the read-aloud voice?
Download an Enhanced or Premium iOS voice for the summary language.
- Open the iPhone or iPad Settings app.
- Go to Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices.
- Choose the language and download an Enhanced or Premium voice when available.
You can adjust reading speed in peel-ed under Settings > Summary voice speed.
How do I search inside a summary?
In iOS 1.0.3 or later, pull down to search. Start at the top of the summary and pull until search appears.
Search checks the title and visible summary text. Use the previous and next controls to move between highlighted matches. When a Feed result matched its title or summary text, opening it keeps that search context. A result found only by channel name opens without highlighted matches.
Languages
What is the difference between Original and Summary language?
Original follows the spoken video language; Summary language is your default output language. Express has its own visible language picker and remembers your selection. A Sub set to Use original language overrides the app default for that Sub.
Will changing the language translate existing summaries?
No. Settings says “Applies to future videos only.” Changing Summary language or a Sub’s language changes future summaries; summaries already created keep their current language.
Which summary languages are available?
peel-ed currently offers 13 summary languages:
English, Deutsch, العربية, 中文, Français, हिन्दी, Italiano, 日本語, 한국어, Português, Русский, Español, and Türkçe.
The app interface stays in English even when the summary language changes.
Notifications
How do I turn on Feed notifications?
Enable both iOS permission and Feed notifications inside peel-ed.
- Open Settings in peel-ed.
- Turn on Feed notifications.
- If asked, choose Allow iOS notifications. If permission was denied before, choose Open iOS Settings and allow notifications there.
Why am I not receiving notifications?
First check both notification switches. Confirm that iOS allows peel-ed notifications, Feed notifications is on, the Sub is active rather than Paused, and the device is online. Notifications are for new Feed summaries; do not expect an Express completion notification.
What happens when I tap a notification?
peel-ed opens the matching Feed summary when it is still available. If it cannot open directly, go to Feed and refresh or search for the video title.
Plans & purchases
Where can I see my usage and current limits?
Open Settings and look at Usage. It shows your current Feed channels and Express usage against the limits for your active plan. Prices, billing choices, and limits can change, so check the app for the current values.
When does Express usage reset?
Your daily Express allowance resets on the next day. Check the Usage display for the current status. If it does not update after the day changes, reconnect to the internet and reopen Settings.
What happens to Subs after a downgrade?
Subs above the new plan allowance are Paused, not automatically deleted. They remain saved but are not monitored. peel-ed resumes paused Subs automatically when space becomes available, for example after you remove an active Sub or upgrade again.
How do I restore a purchase?
In Settings, choose Restore with App Store. Use the same Apple Account that made the purchase and allow pending App Store transactions time to finish. Restoring does not create a second subscription.
How do I change or cancel my subscription?
Manage the subscription through Apple’s App Store subscription settings. Signing out does not cancel a plan. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it separately with Apple if you no longer want it to renew.
Account, privacy & support
What is the difference between Reset cache, Sign out, and Delete account?
They affect different levels of your data.
| Action | What it does | What remains |
|---|---|---|
| Reset cache | Clears local Feed and Express data from this device, including local Express history. | Your account, plan, saved Subs, and account-backed Feed state remain. |
| Sign out | Clears local app data and signs this device out. | Your peel-ed account and App Store plan remain; you can sign in again. |
| Delete account | Permanently deletes your peel-ed account and signs you out. | Your App Store subscription is separate and is not cancelled automatically. |
Before deleting, use Manage App Store plan if you also need to cancel the subscription.
Does peel-ed download or store YouTube videos?
No. peel-ed uses supported public YouTube sources and does not download, save, convert, or redistribute the video media. The original video remains with YouTube and its creator. See the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for details.
What should I do when peel-ed is offline or under maintenance?
Check your connection and follow the status message shown in the app. Try another network, pull down to refresh, and reopen peel-ed. During maintenance, wait and try again; repeated requests will not make the service return sooner.
How do I report a problem or ask for help?
Open Settings > Send feedback.
Say what you expected, what happened, and which screen you were using. A screenshot is optional; review it first and remove personal information. You can also use the support page or email akalin.gueney@gmail.com.
